Feast of the Black Nazarene

Quiapo, Manila
January 9

Saint John the Baptist Church (also known as Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene) in Quiapo is home to the 400-year-old Black Nazarene statue. The Feast of the Black Nazarene is one of the most magnificent religious events of the country. The highlight is a procession, which starts and ends at the church. The Black Nazarene is pulled by a huge crown of devotees — all barefoot. They believe that by doing this, their sickness will be healed and their sins, forgiven.
