Feast of the Black Nazarene

Quiapo, Manila
January 9

Saint John the Baptist Church (also known as Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene) in Quiapo is home of the Black Nazarene statue. Traslación is one of the most magnificent religious events of the country. The highlight is a procession, which starts and ends at the church. The Black Nazarene is pulled by a huge crown of devotees — all barefoot. They believe that by doing this, their sickness will be healed and their sins, forgiven.
