Ethnic Groups of the Philippines

Sambal, Tina

In the past, fierce Sambal warriors frequently raided Christian settlements. They were also highly superstitious and worshiped the spirits of their ancestors. Today, the Sambal are predominantly Roman Catholic, though probably still superstitious.

Populations of the Tina Sambal are found in Iba, Sta. Cruz, and Masinloc in Zambales; Quezon in Palawan; and some municipalities of Pangasinan. The areas they occupy include vast tracts of land that are suitable for farming and are near the sea, which makes fishing a vital means of sustenance.
